A Leadership Pipeline
The Kawan Pilipino Catholic Student Association democratically appoints the succeeding members of the Executive Board through a discernment election called "Leadership Discernment." The process of "discernment" is a spiritual, traditional means of appointing leadership, a procedure used by all Catholic student organizations at UCLA. For Kawan, Leadership Discernment comprises three steps:
(1) Board Nomination
(2) Board Immersion Program
(3) Board Interview
After all three steps are completed, the outgoing Board will finalize appointments and announce the succeeding Board members to the general membership at the Senior Night Banquet.
**Nominations open Monday, Week 1 of Spring Quarter and conclude Friday, Week 4**
**Steps 1 & 2 can technically be skipped, though, they are highly recommended for Step 3**

This component is the first step of "Leadership Discernment" and a prerequisite for step two. General members of Kawan may nominate others and/or themselves for Leadership Discernment and, subsequently, the Board Immersion Program. Those who accept their nomination are named "Discerners."

(II) Board Immersion Program
This component is the second step of "Leadership Discernment." Immersion, for short, is analogous to a traditional internship program or course, albeit, faith and spirituality are major components of it. In order to participate in Immersion, a nomination must have been received and accepted to move forward.

(III) Board Interview
This component is the third and final step of "Leadership Discernment." Board Interviews commence at the conclusion of Immersion. Those who choose to continue past Immersion automatically qualify for an interview with the current Board. As hinted earlier, general members can skip the first two steps and begin this third via application after which they are named "Ex Ante Discerners."
